The National Rail museum in Delhi is commonly also known as Railway museum. The National Rail museum depicts the evolution of Indian railways through the large number of retired rail relics as old as mid nineteenth century. The Rail museum also exhibits the working locomotives like the oldest engine - The Fairy Queen (built in 1855), and the second oldest Patiala state monorail train. Visitors can enjoy the rides on these on Sundays at a very minimal price.
The railway museum has indoor gallery displaying the skulls of various animals, killed on railway tracks, model of various trains, route maps and various other railways equipments and instruments. The gallery also has the section for visually challenged people.
Some of the other attractions of rail museum at delhi (also Known as railway museum) are white saloon of the Prince of Wales (1875), Mysore Maharaja Saloon (1899), Maharaja of Baroda's Saloon (1886) and the Vice regal Dining Car (1889), India’s first steam engine train model (Mumbai to Thane in 1853), Darjeeling hill railway, Nilgiri mountain railway, Kalka shimla railway. There is also a small railway track where children can enjoy the fun rides.
Special Note: The Fairy Queen excursion is being conducted by museum in the month of October to February where you can ride the train from Delhi to Alwar and enjoy the ambience.
